Vacationing with Fido
Oh
boy, summer is coming, the kids will be out of school, ROAD
TRIP! Nowadays, that means the dog is going as well.
For families, a pet boarding bill is not affordable, so lucky for
Fido, that means he's going to be included. It's commom sense
to pack appropriately for the kids, but have we given any thought
as to what the dog will need? A travel bed or blanket is a must,
a combination water bottle/bowl and a dog food and cookie keeper
will be necessary items. If you have a hairless dog, sunblock and
t-shirts will have to be included. A hand mister is a wonderful
accessory for humans and dogs. If this is a camping trip, knowing
if the campground is pet friendly goes without saying. There are
also many pet friendly motels that cater to owners and pets. There
are books and the internet for a national listing. Did you know
that there are also pet/owner vacations that you can book? There
is a rafting company in Canada that caters to yuppies with puppie!
s. Even bed & breakfast establishments are hip to our love
affair with our pooches.
Always remember to leave windows open in the car if you stop at
a rest stop. A few minutes in a closed car can spell disaster
for your dog. A dog's body temperature is l02 degrees, so you can imagine
that a short time in a closed car will escalate his body temperature
and send him into a heat stroke and possible death.
Keep a good supply of Fido's medications at hand and out of his
reach. Also, keep the veterinarian's phone number handy for emergencies.
Should you need to go to a vet while on the road, this facility
can call and get a medical history if needed.
Most of all...HAVE FUN!!!
