Dog Safety in Dog Parks
What did Fido do before dog parks were created? Did Fido run amuck? Anyway, there are a few points about safety that should be voiced:

1. Make sure your pooch has dog tags. These are important to all dog owners. It identifies your dog as being current with all shots. Should there be a scuffle, the animal control officer needs to see this tag.

2. Dog Aggression. Do you know if Fido likes to play well with other dogs? Before setting him loose in a dog park, let him sniff and greet other dogs before you release him. Is your dog sufficiently trained to return to you on voice command? "Fido,COME", called in a happy voice, should be all you need to say to see him turn about face and run to you. This command could very well be the one that saves his life or help thwart a situation with an overly aggressive dog.

3. Dog Beaches- Aren't they wonderful? Can your dog swim? Can you rescue him without harm to yourself if he is struggling in the surf? Also, a few well-chosen toys constitute a great time. Frisbees and floatable toys are an excellent choice for fun in the sun. They promote the bonding experience between you and your dog.

4. Hydration and Shade.  Lots of water, PLEASE!!! All dog parks have running water available. Bring a bowl and there will be no problems. If you are on the beach, pay attention to how long the dog is in the sun. Find or create a shady spot for an afternoon siesta.
OK, everyone... HAVE FUN!!!
